Telford is the modern town of Shropshire with an ever growing population, an expanding and thriving business community and a vibrant contemporary town centre with national retailers, restaurants and leisure facilities.
Thomas Telford is a very highly regarded secondary school which has been named ‘The most successful comprehensive school in the U.K’ and received a Grade 1 Outstanding by Ofsted. Entry is by examination for mixed ability students from age 11 – 18. Other good secondary schools in Telford include Abraham Darby Academy, Madeley Academy and Charlton School.
The Old Hall School is an independent primary school for boys and girls aged 4 – 11. Wrekin College is an independent secondary school, with both day and boarding facilities.
Telford Central Railway Station has regular services to Birmingham, London and Bristol as well as Shrewsbury, Chester and Manchester. The M54 which runs through Telford is convenient for commuting by car, leading south onto the M5 and M6 and North onto the M6 as well as onto the A5 leading to Wales.
Eating, Drinking and Shopping
Telford Shopping Centre has all the national retailers you would expect to find as well as some small independent shops and stands.
The vibrant new Southwater development is home to a range of restaurants including; Nando’s, Zizzi, Pizza Express, Bella Italia, Harvester, TGI Fridays, Handmade Burger Company and ChimiChanga as well as cocktail bar The Liquor Lab.
Out of the town centre, The Queens at Horton is a stylish independent restaurant serving fresh British home-cooked food.
Things to Do
Southwater has a range of entertainment for all ages. Watch a new release at Cineworld, the 11 screen cinema with an Imax screen and DBox seats or try your hand at bowling at the tenpin bowling alley or Ice Skating at the Ice Rink. Pathways lead from Southwater onto Telford Town Park with a small picturesque lake and seating areas separating the two.
Telford Town Park is at the heart of Telford, 420 acres of beautiful parkland with cycling paths, horse riding bridleways, a nature reserve, heritage trails, fishing pools and children’s play areas. Telford Town Park also host many different events throughout the year.
Wonderland situated at the centre of the Town Park is a wonderful day out for children with nursery rhymes and fairytales coming to life. Amongst the woodland, the characters and their houses are around every corner as well as a maze, crazy golf course and indoor soft play area.
The Place Theatre has regular shows including ballet, pantomime, children’s shows, comedian stand up show’s and plays.
On the edge of Granville Country Park in the area of Donnington is Telford Equestrian Centre, a livery yard, riding school and competition centre, in Muxton, The Shropshire Golf Course is a popular 27 hole course and club house and across Telford there are many other sporting facilities including gyms and fitness centres, football clubs, cricket clubs and tennis clubs.
